Paper choices
All fine art papers are favourites of mine with high archival life and excellent colour reproduction. Each offers a different finish for your artwork, whether it’s textured, smooth or lustre, most have a cotton fibre base.
Fine art matte – smooth
- Canson Rag Photographique.
- A smooth cotton rag with a true matte surface.
- Excellent for portraits and most photographs.
Fine art matte – lightly textured
- Canson Edition Etch.
- A lightly textured cotton rag with a true matte surface.
- Similar to Rag Photographique in overall appearance, the texture is quite light so it still works for most photographs and artwork. It may suit less detailed images where the light texture adds to the overall feel.
Fine art matte – moderately textured
- Hahnemuhle German Etching Rag.
- A beautiful organic texture and deep blacks with a true matte surface. I really like the look of this paper.
- Suits artwork where a more obvious texture is desired.
- Perhaps less suitable for detailed photographs, as the textures can get in the way.
Fine art matte – heavily textured
- Canson Aquarelle.
- A heavily textured cotton rag with a true matte surface. Where a more extreme texture is desired.
Fine art lustre
- Canson Platine Fibre Rag.
- High contrast and vibrancy.
- Has a cotton base which gives a natural looking texture to the lustre surface with vibrant colours and deep blacks to provide a higher quality, brighter and more natural appearance than cheap photo lustre papers, as well as a greatly increased lifespan.
Johns choice
- Choose this option if you’d like me to select a paper for you. To help me decide, feel free to let me know how the print will be used and what you’re thinking. Also, will it be framed, exhibited, handled?
